CrossFit Koolaid

You know those groups of people that you hear about and think "there they go, they too have drank the kool-aid" know what I'm talking about.  Well typically I try to avoid those sorts of scenarios at all costs, making a concious effort to decide for myself and when at all possible do my own thing.  However, when it came to my workout regimine, something just wasn't jiving.  For almost two months I spent an hour and a half trying to get past the annoying voice of Leandro encouraging my via my guest room DVD player that my body's going to change.  Well sir, your Brazil Butt Lift worked...but only on my butt.  Sure some may called it my greatest attribute (re: my husband) but for me the long and not as intensive workout just wasn't cutting it.  I needed something more, but didn't want to give up on my DVD set just yet.  Then B told me about CrossFit.  I had my reservations "something that gives you gains that quickly must come at a loss"...."what's the catch?"... and most importantly ,"but I'm scccarrrreeeeddddd!".  A few days later my friend Alyssa (who is moving soon, SUPER SAD FACE) hit me up to say she was joining B at the gym and I should go every day before she leaves too.  Wait--you want me to do WHAT?  Fineeeeeeeeee.  If not only to get some quality time in before she left I knew trying something I'd never done before with a friend was a great way to test out something I was weary of, especially since that's how I got into Yoga with Kim Lawson and we all know how I now feel about gettin' my Namaste on.  So I agreed, and prayed, and almost bailed the next morning, but I begrudingly went with terror in my eyes and twenty minutes later on that track on the North Shore, I fell in love. CrossFit is freakin' awesome, especially this class with this group of people.  It's a round (usually anywhere from 7-30 minutes) of running/rowing mixed with super high intensity weight training and a workout that changes every day.  I.E. my third day we did this:

Run 800m, 80 Double Unders, 40 Burpees

Run 400m, 40 Double Unders, 20 Burpees

Run 200m, 20 Double Unders, 10 Burpees

Run 100m, 10 Double Unders, 5 Burpees
with. out. stopping.
To say it's intense is an understatement, but it's an awesome "give it all you've got" workout with incredible results.  Today I was on the verge of tears, and it was only a 7 minute go 'round (of lunging and push-press t'workin).  I've only been twelve times (that's it?  It feels more like twelve MONTHS than days!) and my increased endurance and strength (and muscles!  Ya girl be flexin' all day er'ry day) is noticeable.  I can see why people get hooked.  I'm drinkin' the kool-aid.  (And still loving my yoga and actually incorporating it into CrossFit, the principles help a lot to get through the intensity--and the every day ridiculously sore muscles).  If you've been curious about this workout 'fad' I say give it a shot!  You never know, you too may become hooked.  ;)
