STAY CONNECTED

I used to be an Interior Designer, so I’m attracted to all kinds of styles and colors, my tastes shifting with new trends or things I’m inspired by in the moment (currently I’m feeling crisp blues and all things coastal cool). 🌊 Sure, upon entering my house one would quickly notice my affinity for all things white (I can ONLY live in white walls and use white towels thankyouverymuch), but when it comes down to it, there’s just one color I can’t shake. From my nails to my pillows, flowers to photos, you may as well call me LVP because I choose 🎀pink🎀 all the live long day. Pink trumps all. Oh ya know just a lazy day by the pool, lookin’ real fly 🤪 Jaylene of @styled.in.paradise has, well, STYLE! I wanted to go home with all the things she had tucked into her Mary Poppins pompom bag. Can you BELIEVE this mom has a THREE month old at home?!? YES. THREE. MONTHS. OLD. The passion is real, Jaylene! I loved getting out vicariously to play dress up! I appreciate that I get to take photos of details and events regularly because while each celebration is different, they all have the same key elements which pushes me to create in new ways using the same things every time. It’s like a top chef rapid fire challenge! You got a zuchinni, duck head and jackfruit: MAKE IT WORK! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Wait. I’m mixing up my Bravo shows here... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’m always on the hunt to use normal, everyday items and turn them into meaningful magic. Like this page from a book in the bride’s getting ready suite turned ring backdrop. 😍 Auf Wiedersehen!
Instagram is back on, HOOORAYYYY! Tell me, what did you do with all that free time? Take a walk on the beach without your phone? Have a conversation with the person next to you? Stare off into space at a blank wall at the doctor’s office? Suffer a mini heart attack? Me? I edited photos...while simultaneously googling “Instagram down March?” and refreshing every 5 minutes. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Guilty. Maybe it was a sign we all needed a break? Or I need to be in said doctor’s office handling my clear and ever present social media addiction. I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET WORK DONE OKAY!
Do you have photos you regret not taking? For me there are a few pictures I’ve visualized but for whatever reason chose not to document that have haunted me since. Nate’s tiny newborn toes peeking out his changing basket, my Mommalou on the dance floor on our wedding day and all of us friends pregnant at the same time before the untimely passing of baby Maya. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ While I find that I was fully present in these moments, my camera being the last thing on my mind, I wish I had documented these fleeting moments in time and can’t seem to shake the thought of them and heavy at the weight they can never be recreated. I can’t get those back. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s this desire for couples to stay present paired with my own regrets rising at the forefront of my mind that curate my approach to photographing a wedding day. The shot I wish I had of my girlfriends all dressed up encourages me to gather up yours. The gratitude I know that comes with a nice portrait of grandparents is what prompts my suggestion even when I know it’s not on the shot list. Through my own life I’ve learned the importance mixing the refined details with the treasured beauty of real life. My goal? Gorgeous photos that never miss a moment. Do you have any specific photos you regret not taking? Or is it just a photographer thing?
Have you ever wondered how I manage business and motherhood? Often times I wonder myself, and truthfully it was something that I fretted about when first becoming pregnant, even when I tried to hide my anxiety when colleagues asked “are you worried about your business?”. I won’t lie, for entrepreneurs like myself who thrive in constant work and creativity the thought of slowing down, ifevenforasecond, scared me. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But then I realized this: this is the life I’ve intentionally created, a flexible schedule that’s prime for navigating business as a parent. And while every day may not BE perfect; I’ve given up my office for a nursery and sometimes resort to working in bed with headphones and a locked door, being a mom (on her now 8th year!) of business makes me work that much harder, makes me feel that much more accomplished, and makes it that much more worth it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Before giving birth I took the leap and hired studio help, have worked to streamline processes and am always reevaluating systems and changing routines for what best suits our dual freelance family. And trust me, I certainly don’t do it all, I’ve got a lot a ton of support, their names are Marshall, Kristin, Marichris and Marina.🤪 While my family still doesnt have it all together and probably never will, we have a whole lotta fun trying.
